MarsHydro has a reputation for producing some of the most affordable LED grow lights on the market. You may already know their earlier products as the Marshydro 300w and 600w. Or the more sophisticated Pro II with Cree led technology. These earlier models prove that their products are not only reasonably priced, but they also happen to offer a lot in terms of usefulness. That is why we are going to discuss their most recent release, the Mars Eco, which comes in 300W and 600W models. In short, these units emit full Spectrum light, using innovative SMD chip technologies at an affordable price. So without further ado, let us dive in this new release from MarsHyro.

The Mars Eco 49 is a full spectrum grow light intended for smaller scale indoor gardening. The panel weighs only 5.3 lbs making it light and flexible. Because it is an LED grow light, it produces considerably less heat and consequently does not require ballasts. This means it can placed much closer to plant canopies when compared to regular grow lights. This 100w LED grow light from MarsHydro is a good choice for a smaller indoor growing project, most ideal for hydroponic systems, including grow boxes, greenhouses, and grow tents.

The Mars Eco 98 covers a bigger area in contrast to the previously mentioned 49. This makes the full spectrum fixture ideal for a larger scale indoor gardening. The Eco 98 and 49 both shares the same features, the only difference is the dimensions and weight. The 98 is bigger and weighs almost twice as much, because of that, it also can allow you to grow 2 plants at once, whereas the 49 is ideal for growing a single plant.

The MarsHydro Eco-series is an excellent option for people looking for a powerful LED light for blossom stage. It is a very effective LED light with an impressive lifespan. Regarding its price, it is reasonable taking into account the number of benefits it offers. The grow light fixture can be used to grow plants in a grow box, a tent or any other hydroponic system. While the Eco 49 is ideal for a single plant grow, the 98 can supply light for two plants throughout their entire lifecycle.


The Light

Plants prefer different light based on its current stage of growth. The blue end of the light spectrum is preferable in the early life stages. Meaning from seedling to end pre-flower. Whereas plants tend to absorb more light from the red end of spectrum once it starts flowering. The blue and the red colors of led grow lights are designed to mimic seasons. During spring the light consists of more blue as opposed to falling where wavelengths with the red spectrums are more dominant. The graph above tells us that the Eco fixtures utilizes the electricity to emit light in wavelengths ranging from 400 nm to 740. This means the light is within the PAR zone (400 nm to 700). So it is very limited how much consumed electricity goes to waste. We can also see that the graph peaks at the red end of the light spectrum. So the light is mostly red. A plant needs red light when it enters flowering stage. Although the fixtures doesnt pick at the blue levels, it still can be used for veging, because the plants don’t require intense blue light spectrum in their early stages.


Light distribution

The light distribtion is indicated by the PPFD value as showen by the figure above. The numbers are usually indicated by a light distribution map. A high number means a lot of light falls on a certain point. So the higher number the better it. The distribution map also tells us, that the ideal height for this grow light is 12 or 18 inches. If you move the fixture 24 inches away, the light will not get distributed equally leaving certain parts of the plant out of reach. Always look for the PPFD map.
